How To Transfer VHS Tapes To DVD Format

A PC connected to a converter box can be used along with a VCR or camcorder to convert VHS cassettes to a DVD. VHS tapes are not durable and lose quality with the passage of time. Moreover, the change in temperature of the place where the video tapes are stored can make the cassettes brittle. During the VHS to DVD conversion process, the cassettes are recorded and then saved onto the hard drive of a PC. After that the recorded video is burnt onto a DVD with the help of a DVD recorder/writer.
 Instructions

To start the conversion process, you need to connect the 3 color-coded connectors of the composite cable to the input jacks of the converter. One end of the cables will be connected to the VCR and the other end to the converter. Now, plug the USB cable of the converter box to the open USB port of the computer.

Insert the software CD that comes with the converter box into the media tray of the computer. Then shut the tray and hang on for a while so the disc can play. To install the software on your computer, you should click on the on-screen button. Restart the PC when the installation is completed.

Insert a VHS cassette into the camcorder or VCR and rewind the tape to the starting point to start recording. Next, launch the converter box software.

Press the “Play” button visible on the VCR. Then click on the “Record” button on the converter box app in order to start copying the cassette to your computer. Then click on the Stop button as soon as the recording is finished. Your next step is to click on the “File” to highlight “Save As”. An empty will appear where you can type the name of the file you want to save onto the computer.

Now, we will see how to burn the recorded files onto a DVD. Eject the media tray of the DVD burner, insert a DVD-R and close the tray.

Open the app that you use to burn DVD’s on your computer. No matter what DVD burning software you have on your PC, the procedure to burn the videos on a DVD is almost the same. You need to import the recordable files into the software in order to burn them. Import all files one by one to start the burning process.

You can rearrange the files into any order by moving them up and down in the list. When you have added and arranged all the files, you can click on “Next” to move to the next step.
You may choose styles and menu options form many choices given. Before you click on the “Start Burning” button, you should check on the layout of the files by clicking the “Preview” button.

Click on the “Burn” button on the DVD burning software in the bottom right corner of the software. Wait for a few minutes to complete the burning process. This may take a 2-30 minutes depending upon the size of the files you want to burn. The DVD burner will eject the DVD automatically when the burning is complete.
