How To Transfer Digital 8 To PC

Digital 8 is also known as Digital8. This is a certain kind of 8mm video tape which is used by some brands of quality digital video camcorders. This video is not used anymore and has been replaced with smaller, HQ MiniDV format. However, old digital 8 camcorders can still be seen around in the here and now. You can easily edit and burn the videos transferred to your PC. The videos can be burned onto DVDs and be played on DVD player. You can easily transfer digital8 to DVD provided you have fast computer and necessary tools.

Your first step is to connect the Digital 8 video camcorder to the PC. You can do it in many different ways. If your PC contains red, yellow and white input/output jacks for audio/video, you can connect your camcorder cables to those jacks. In case your PC does not have these jacks, you can then check whether your camcorder can be connected to your PC through a FireWire or USB cable. All you need to do is to connect either the USB or FireWire cable to the related inputs on your camcorder as well as computer.

If you cannot use any of these methods, you can purchase another piece of equipment. Many DVD records are out there in the market that can be connected to your PC via a USB port. These recorders have composite inputs required for connecting your camcorder to the PC. You can purchase such devices at offline or online electronic stores. Examples of these stores are Best Buy, eBay and Amazon.

Launch your video editing computer application. You can find scores of video editing programs on the Internet. Alternatively, you can use Windows Movie Maker that comes built-in with widows OS.

Now, to transfer videos from the digital 8 camcorder, you need to rewind the video tape to the start. The video editing software captures video footage from the camcorder tape in real time. This means the video footage is copied to your computer when it is being played. Keep in mind that you must rewind the video tape to the start in order to record the entire footage. So, do not skip this step.

The next step is to capture the Digital8 footage. Find and select the “capture” option in the software program you are using. If you have connected the camcorder to your PC via the FireWire port, the recording application will control the digital 8 camcorder. Then it will start the camcorder to record the output file to files on the PC. Should you have connected the camcorder to your PC via composite cables, you need to start off the camcorder manually. When you have started the camcorder, you might press the capture button on the editing software. Remember, do it when the video touches the place where you need to start recording it. After the recording of video is done, use your video editing application to edit it and burn it onto DVDs. That is all!
